Extreme Makeover...Now, In Montana!

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is in Billings this week building a house for a family here. The house they are building is located a few miles outside of Billings on the way to Roundup. I thought it might be neat to drive out there after work and take a few pictures but I heard that the traffic on the narrow two lane road has been horrendous all week. So in lieu of original photos, here is a link to The Billings Gazette where there are loads of pictures along with a couple of stories. This leads me to a confusing thought....the family is on vacation in New York while their home is being rebuilt, supposedly to be able to surprise them when they arrive back home. But with the overabundance of pictures on the Gazette site, what is to keep them from accessing the Internet while in New York to check on the progress? If it were me, it would be "extremely" difficult to keep away from the Internet and not to peek at what my new house might look like. Unless they have chaperones in New York to keep the family in line and away from computers!

The reveal is set for Saturday afternoon. Earlier in the week, I thought I might venture out and check out the reveal and possibly get my fifteen minutes of fame as a part of the crowd. That is until I learned they were expecting a "crowd" of over 20,000 people! Sadly, this shows the desperation of people in Montana to find any kind of excitement. I decided not to go to the reveal as well. I have no clue where all these people are going to park. I think it would be better off to park in one of the Downtown parking garages and walk out to the house!

I heard a rumor today that the Billings show isn't even going to air until October. I usually don't watch Extreme Makeover (it makes me get all teary eyed every single time, a kinda Little House on the Prairie sort of thing) so I will have to remember to watch for it.

I am so glad Last Comic Standing is back on the telly. Except for ANT...he still bothers me. And he is so not funny. I need to get busy and write a review of the comics. I especially like the fact that they are going outside of the US to find comics...the only drawback I can foresee is that sometimes what is funny in Australia or the UK is not funny in the US. I am rooting for a couple of the Brits and of course, Doug Benson. But it is too early to tell who is the funniest unlike...

On the Lot. Would someone just give the prize to Zach Lipovsky please? That kid oozes creativity and has such a wonderful sense of style as well as a cute little crooked smile. Yes, I guess it is essential that all directors must have charisma and good looks. I was (and still am) rooting for Will Bigham but it is obvious that Zach will win. And will someone please keep Garry Marshall away from the Viagra?! It's a wonder he can even concentrate long enough to watch the two minute movies. Wait...I don't think he can concentrate for two minutes without lusting after talking about some hot woman he has spied and comment about what they are wearing (or lack of!). Sadly he is confused and thinks he is on the reality show Age of Love.

Barry 1975

Ahh...what a blast from the past. This is how I will always remember Barry Manilow. And Mac Davis as well...

This is what happens when you mix driving with stupidity

Last night around midnight, two young girls were driving on the narrow two lane road past our farm. Big deal, you say? Well, they were going over 100 miles an hour and were probably drinking but I don't know that for sure. All I know is that they should thank the baby Jesus that they are still alive.

From what we can tell they were traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver last control. This first picture shows tracks across the lawn where they traveled quite a distance....Sideways.

Clicking on the picture enlarges image...

Notice that they just missed the mailbox post and several trees. Oh yeah, and on the left hand side of the picture there is a red reflector that marks a culvert which they missed as well. I think if they would have hit that they would have flipped the car.

They continued on sideways until they reached the corral...

The car had already been removed by the time I took this picture. Here they crashed through two calf hutches (which luckily didn't contain any calves), and slid through the fence into a rather large pile of manure.

Right next to these calf hutches had also been a propane tank which was also removed by the time I took this picture. That would have been quite a sight (and sound) if they would have hit that tank.

This last picture also shows the double fence post that they missed as well. As far as I know both girls were alright and the car was damaged but not totaled. Actually, landing in the manure was probably the best thing that could have happened.

New Summer Catchphrases

Whilst watching my weekly dose of new reality television, I happened upon two catchphrases that were pretty unusual. The first was on a show on Food Network however the name of the show escapes me. It is the one where a talented young chef goes into a supermarket and randomly chooses a couple, then goes to their house and cooks a meal for them. The chef went to a couple's home and whipped up some sort of thing with truffles in it. I have no clue what it was called...all I know is that it had truffles on top and truffles are expensive. The four people around the table were oooowing and ahhhing when the husband of the couple looks up and says, "My God, this is better than air!!"

Better than air? Since air is colorless, odorless (usually), and tasteless, I don't see how that was much of a compliment. But I thought it was an amusing catchphrase and I intend to use it frequently this summer. "So how was that movie you saw last night?" "Well, let me just say that it was better than air!"

The other catchphrase happened on "So You Think You Can Dance?" It was last night's show from Vegas where they were picking the twenty finalists. It was down to two girls....one would stay and one would have to say goodbye. When they announced the girl's name who was a finalist, she screamed, "WELL, SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!" as she clapped her hand over her mouth.

WHAT? I could see her screaming, "Well, SHUT UP!" or "Well, SHUT MAW MOUTH!" but not "Well, SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!" Hilarious, I must have laughed for ten minutes over that one. That's another phrase I intend to use this summer as well.

"Guess what Pandora, you have just won the lottery!" "Well, SHUT THE FRONT DOOR! This is BETTER THAN AIR!"

Coming to America

Mika is popular all over the world. In countries like...

Hong Kong

Australia

Holland

...to name just a few.

Tomorrow night he will be performing in Los Angeles and for the next week he will be performing in several other American cities. How exciting! I wish I didn't live in the boonies so I could get a chance to watch his live show. Heck, I might even get on a plane to go see Mika! Hmmm...wait a sec, that's pushing it. (But I did seriously consider it for a couple of seconds) Someday, hopefully, I will get to see a Mika performance that won't involve getting on an airplane. :-)
